David Rossel

David Rossel was born in 1988 in Basel. He studied Musicology, History and East European Studies at the University of Basel, as well as choir conducting with Johannes Meister and Gonzague Monney. Furthermore, he took lessons in composition under Balz Trümpy, Ernst Pfiffner and Rudolf Jaggi, and master classes with Helmuth Rilling and Simon Halsey, among others, and at the Conservatoire russe de Paris.

Im addition to being the director of the Männerstimmen Basel, he is also the director of various other choirs and ensembles in Switzerland. He is a freelance composer and arranger, with a focus on Swiss music of the 20th and 21st century. In his role as a musicologist, he has also edited a number of works, among them the collected works for choir of Evgenij Gunst and multiple pieces for choirs with orchestra by Hans Huber.

David has been in charge of the Kulturkirche Paulus, a church-turned-concert hall in Basel. He is also in the organisation commitees of various music festivals and often acts as an organiser, tour manager and music producer. He is the president of the association of choirs directors in north-western Switzerland VChN and a chair in the Swiss Society for New Music SGNM.

Adrian Borter

Adrian Borter, born 1988 in Zurich, was awarded his bachelor's degree in Music and Motion from the Musikakademie Basel in 2012. In 2017, a master's degree in music teaching from the Zurich Academy of Arts followed. Since the summer of 2017, he is a music teacher at the Rudolf Steiner school in Basel, where he also conducts the orchestra and the choir.

In the Männerstimmen, Borter acts both as a singer and as the vice conductor. He also sings in the vocal ensemble "pourChœur" and is the musical director of the "Initiative Musikwochen."

In the past, he has been concertmaster of two separate youth orchestras, singer in the prestigious Swiss Youth Choir, and singer and dancer in two musical theatre productions. He was also part of the accompanying band of actress and comedian Bettina Dieterle, and percussionist in mOst, a folk band.

Borter lives in Basel with his wife and two children.
